We exchanged our timeshare in Palm Desert, CA (the Marriott Desert Springs) for one on Hilton Head, SC (the Marriott Grande Ocean). Our vacation was in mid-September 1999, which turned out to be not the best timing, since Hurricane Floyd (a Category 5 "storm of the century") managed to cut our vacation a few days short. But it was still a wonderful vacation before Floyd arrived, and we will definitely go back to Hilton Head again.

Our resort was located on the beach, near the southern end of Hilton Head Island. It is one of the newest resorts on the island (in fact, Marriott just made it before all oceanfront development was banned). Like all resorts on the island, it can't be more than five stories tall.
Â
We had a large 2BR/2BTH unit, overlooking the ocean and one of the smaller pools. There were a lot of swimming pools scattered all around the resort grounds... adult pools, kid pools, family pools, and a lap pool.
Â
The rest of the resort grounds (the part that didn't consist of swimming pools!) had beautiful tree-shaded walkways and ponds.
Â
If you got tired of exploring the grounds, you could stop to enjoy the view from a porch swing.
Â
There were plenty of BBQ grills scattered around the property.
Â
The beaches on the island were very wide, especially at low tide...
Â
...which made beach cruising by bike a very popular pastime.
Â
In fact, Hilton Head is famous for its extensive network of bike paths meandering all over the island.
