I sent this complaint to Grand Mayan Dec 7th 2011, I have not heard back from them as of Jan 1st 2012.My name is Terre. My daughter, Annie, and I are Grand Mayan owners. I don't know my account number but I wanted to lodge this complaint anyway. On the 2nd of November I and a friend, John went to Ixtapa for a week vacation. Me, mainly lay around the pool, for John it was archeology pictures and history.

My wife and I have a Grand Bliss Master Suite, and have been very satisfied with the times and rooms that we have booked through this ownership. Like so many others though we are much less happy with the whole experience of high pressure and costly presentations that we have attended. we can't be sure that the amount of investment we have made will ever be recovered.

We barely escaped that place and their tricks. When we weren't sure they crammed the 5 day cooling off period down our throats and when we tried to cancel they were upset that we knew about and demanded to know who told us.

The Mayan Group has to be the crookedest timeshare in the US/Mexico! They fish people coming out of the Cancun airport posing as "tourist trip" sellers, and then see if they can lure you in to going to see the most "luxurious apartments you will ever see, all 5 star!" well, when we arrived to Cancun dead tired after a 10 hour flight we were not good for anything.

I recall that my friend and I landed in Cancun dead tired from London after ten hours in the air! I was dreaming of a nice comfortable bed. Some Mexican men were at the airport selling what seems to have been "cheap trips around Mexico". My friend wanted to know what they were doing as they were calling out to the passing tourists who had just come out of the passport control area. I was amazed that she went towards them in such a hurry to see what they were doing there. I called out to her saying that we had our rep at the hotel but she would not listen and just said that she wanted to hear them out. She immediately bought two tickes to Chichinitsa. And the men then got details of where we were staying etc.

I was also a VICTIM of the Mayan Timshare SCAM!! Here is my story, very similar...

I would like to take a minute of your time to tell you about a business that is using fraudulent information and illegal sales practices to steal thousands of dollars from unsuspecting citizens, who are now victims of fraud. My story is just like hundreds of others that are documented throughout the internet; a victim of a timeshare company who is only interested in money and power.
When purchasing 2 elite weeks and 2 vacation weeks at the Grand Mayan, i was charged an IVA tax of $9100. People i know who sell timeshares have advised me that there is no sales tax on timeshare purchases. What mexican law calls for an IVS tax of 15% on timeshare purchases.

I need to notify the IRS in the USA of this tax, as I will be using some weeks as rentals.
