Hacienda Del Mar - ALL LIES!!

My wife and I bought a timeshare at Hacienda Del Mar (HDM) in September 2009. At the time, they promised us that they would take over our existing timeshare from Shell Vacations so that we would not have to pay any more maintenance fees. So, we paid 10% down (about $2,500) and financed the rest. We immediately stopped paying the quarterly maintenance fees at Shell and around April 2010, we started receiving calls from Shell requesting payment of the maintenance fees.

At this time, we contacted HDM through phone calls and emails, but they would not respond. Finally, around July, I contacted every person I could think of at HDM and left messages that I will stop making payments on my timeshare at HDM unless they fulfilled their contractual obligation. Finally, I receive an email from their attorney, William Amezaga, stating that they will foreclose on my timeshare if I cease payments. He further states that it was a third party broker who was responsible for taking over my Shell timeshare. However, this third-party broker was located at the sales office of HDM and the sales rep never indicated that there was any third party to this transaction.

Basically, HDM lied through their teeth to make a sale, but then reneges on their obligations and has their attorney threaten us with legal action. At this point, I really don't care what they do. I stopped making payments several months ago and they can keep their worhtless timeshare. With all the problems in Mexico today, I sure would not set foot into that country anyway. And considering the despicable people at HDM, that's the last place I would want to spend my vacation. I may be out $4,000 - $5,000 dollars, but I learned my lesson and they will not get another penny from me. My credit is excellent so I can take this one hit on my credit report. Most lenders ignore derogatory remarks from timeshare sales anyway since everyone knows how those people operate.

The best advice is NEVER buying a timeshare anywhere. It is a scam and the so-called timeshare you buy is sold over and over again to other people. It is very difficult to sell your timeshare now and renting isn't in the deal. It will cost you more to buy a timeshare and maintenance fee than to rent a hotel room or a full ownership of a condo. Don't do it. There is good information about timeshare scams:
