Reviews of the timeshare industry by the owners...
I visited the Bahamas during the week of Christmas, 2010. Unfortunately, I was conned by Ocean Reef timeshare while visiting. I have a timeshare in South Carolina. I went on a timeshare tour at Ocean Reef in the Bahamas. I complained to Ocean Reef timeshare manager, Bryan Banniser, that my maintenance fee in South Carolina continues to rise and I keep getting special assessments. Bryan told me that if I purchased Ocean Reef I could trade in my South Carolina timeshare or allow Jay (a timeshare reseller-a friend of his) to sell my property.
Bryan invited me to talk to Jay while I sat at the table during the timeshare presentation. Jay told me that he could sell my property in South Carolina for $7,000. Since $7,000 was more than Ocean Reef was offering as a trade in, I agreed to purc! hase at Ocean Reef and allow Jay to sell my property for $7,000.
Bryant was to give me Jay's information (telephone, email, mailing address) when we completed the paperwork. After I signed the papers to purchase Ocean Reef, Bryan Bannister, disappeared. I kept going by the office but was continually told that Bryan would get the information to me. It became clear after a couple of weeks that Jay never existed. So I called and sent emails. I talked to the owner -Kor and asked for my money back. He told me that I had nothing in writing.
I contacted my credit card company after I returned to the states but it was after the 7 days (the agreement gave me 7 days to cancel). I have contacted the Bahamas prime minister, the attorney general of my state and the better business bureau.
To add insult to injury, I received a maintenance fee statement from Ocean Reef Yacht Club in January for $390. My maintenance fee was never to increase more than 3%. In February that maintenance fee had increased to $430. In March it was $437.23.
Ocean Reef Yacht Club has a number of addresses and phone numbers. Ocean Reef Yacht Club 3200 Broadmoor Ave SE Grand Rapids MI 49512, Ocean Reef Yacht Club 2524 Momentum Place Chicago, IL 60689 and Floyd Huntington – (406)756-3301 in Montana.
